This is written by a pastor Owen whom I have written to off and on in times past.
The No Shame Generation
There is a verse in the book of Jeremiah that reads like this; Chapter 6:15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at a time that I will visit them they shall be cast down, saith the Lord.
It kind of sounds like He is speaking to the generation we are rubbing shoulders with every day. People have no shame or embarrassment whatsoever about their open sinful life style. I was thinking and meditating on this thought the other day and there are a number of factors involved when this is paramount in a person’s life. Surely there is no fear of God in their heart, nor is there light in them from the word of God. When you have people that are not ashamed of their wickedness then it is only logical that there will be no guilt for their transgressions. This cause and effect continues and results in a person that sees no need to repent. Why repent when you don't feel guilt or condemnation for your lifestyle? How in the world did we ever reach such a pitiful godless condition? It's the fruit of lascivious grace preaching. When a preacher refuses to name sin, people no longer believe they are sinners. The absence of crying aloud and showing the people their sin has resulted in no condemnation, no shame, no blush sinners. It took the preaching of Jonah to bring the people of Nineveh to cry out in repentance. No preaching on SIN, no shame, no blush thus no guilt and the Holy Ghost has no condemning light in people to work with to bring Godly sorrow to their heart. This is why sin HAS to be made exceedingly sinful - Romans 7:13.
I just finished writing to pastor Owen, thanking him for posting his thoughts. I also shared the following:
It's hard to witness to people who don't consider themselves doing anything sinful. There was a time I asked somebody about the sin they were committing continually, "Don't you know that's wrong?" The answer was, "Yes." I then asked, "Doesn't that bother you?" Again the answer was, "Yes." Then my final question, "Then why do you keep doing it?" Answer? "I don't know." I knew the answer....it was a love for sin rather than listening to the conscience God has given us. We are living in a generation where right is wrong and wrong is right.
